English and Spanish Major at the University of Florida
18th and 19th Century Literature, Film Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Queer History, Social Movements, Race Studies, Philosophy, Immigration, and Cuban History
I was raised in Miami, Florida by an Cuban Musician mother who encouraged my passions for the arts, which led me to pursue English for my major. What started out as a minor, became a passion to pursue my parents language and made me add Spanish as a second major so that I could continue to speak and write in the language. Taking a course in Latinx Feminist literature created a desire to delve into my identity as a Hispanic woman and take courses in the Latin American Studies department which became a Minor. All this has culminated into entering a 4+1 Masters Program in Latin American studies. Within the MALAS program, I hope to continue pursuing my passions all the while learning about the identity of my different culture and their histories, which will in turn teach me about my own history and identity as well. I am interested in researching Latin American Culture within the United States, or Latinx peoples, and the specific impact moving to a new country has on traditions, language, and more.
