2023 WORLD MUSIC FEST

The School of Music, the Center for Latin American Studies, and the Center for Arts, Migration + Entrepreneurship (CAME) are proud to announce our “2023 World Music Fest” at Bo Diddley (downtown Gainesville) to celebrate the music of the world and a diverse network of artists, faculty, students, and community partners that exemplify the goals of equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion. For nearly two decades, various UF World Music ensembles have performed in downtown Gainesville and at different social functions, establishing arts programming and partnerships across the university and the local community.
The 2023 World Music Fest will take place at the Bo Diddley Downtown Plaza on October 13th, starting at 7:00 PM featuring five diverse musical ensembles with students, faculty artists, and music professionals: Sunshine Steelers, Maharajah Flamenco Trio, Jacaré Brazil Instrumental and Vocal Ensembles, Afro Pop Ensemble, and UF Jazz Combo with a multi-instrumentalist guest from Brazil: Arismar do Espirito Santo.

- Maharajah Flamenco Trio with Silviu Ciulei (flamenco guitar and voice), David Cobb (electric bass), and Ramin Yazdanpanah (various percussion)
- Afro Pop Ensemble – Tim Murray, Director
- Jacaré Brazil (Vocal, Percussion, and Instrumental)—Welson Tremura, Director, assisted by Kenneth Metzker
- UF Jazz Band and Combo – Scott Wilson, Director
We bring to the community and the University of Florida a particular reason to celebrate great music, people, and musical repertoires beyond and to share a common space to listen to mesmerizing music from home and the world.
