The Jacaré Brazil Ensemble held their Spring 2024 concert on April 14, directed by the Center's own Welson Tremura!
Specializing in the musical traditions of Latin America's largest nation, UF's Jacaré Brazil represents the most diverse performance ensemble within a university performing arts program. It comprises four complementary ensemble sections: percussion, vocal, guitar, and instrumental choro. Each semester, specific repertoires combine these sections into unique ensemble groupings featuring guest artists of faculty and students (undergraduate and graduate) from within the School of Music, other units on campus, and the wider music community. Guest artists from international arenas frequently perform with the group, fostering a rich and diverse artistic and cultural collaboration environment.

Instrumental: Jacaré Brazil plays Bach
This concert occurred at the School of Music (University of Florida), celebrating “choro music.” Jacaré Brazil’s unique ability to explore the rich music of Brazil from various musical perspectives, arrangements, and repertoires—a fresh view of the music of J.S. Bach (1685-1750) with a Brazilian accent. This is not the first time that Bach’s music is performed by a combination and choro ensemble, and we have added a few additional orchestral instruments for a colorful effect. These are samples of BWV 578 – J.S Bach. A four-voice organ fugue in G minor, BWV 209, Sinfonia – J.S. Bach. The first movement of the cantata, “No sa che sia dolore” (“He knows not what grief there is”), and BWV 1013, Allemande – J.S. Bach. First movement of a sonata for flute solo with Jacaré Brazil’s take on it. – Welson Tremura
