Dr. Carlos Suarez, LAS core faculty, and Dr. Lauren Pearlman, LAS affiliate faculty, were recently interviewed about the complex issues surrounding the possibility of Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. officially becoming U.S. states. They address the power of representation in Congress, the partisan divide on the topic, and the racism, colonialism, and xenophobia that have long influenced the debate on statehood for the two territories.
