LAS core faculty Dr. Joel Correia and LAS affiliate faculty Dr. Kathleen Colverson have been named 2021-2022 Fulbright scholars.
Dr. Correia’s research project is titled “Building the Future: Infrastructure development and environmental justice in Paraguay’s Chaco.” As Fulbright scholar, he will collaborate with two leading human rights organizations in Paraguay to help launch local environment justice research groups and teach two short courses in the country’s premier anthropology program. The Scholar “Flex” award will support project activities during summer 2022 & 2023 (delayed per Covid conditions in Paraguay) alongside the Centro de Estudios Antropológicos of the Universidad Católica, Tierraviva a los Pueblos Indígenas del Chaco, and the Coordinadora de Derechos Humanos en Paraguay.
Dr. Colverson will be working in conjunction with Dr. Myriam Paredes at FLACSO-Ecuador (Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales) to address issues related to malnutrition in Indigenous populations.
