We welcome Spanish historian and prolific scholar of the Caribbean and Spain, Dr. Consuelo Naranjo Orovio of the Instituto de Historia in Madrid to our university. Dr. Naranjo Orovio has published a dozen books on the links between racism and Spanish immigration to Cuba; the Spanish Civil War; Spanish republican exiles; and the racialization of global capitalism in early Twentieth Century labor systems that relied on Haitian and West Indian labor across the Caribbean/Central American basin. She is currently the director of the Colección Antilia and also a member of several editorial boards of international scientific journals.
